Technologies of project designing

The technology of project designing at SUDOP PRAHA, a.s., reflects the contemporary requirements of investors for rapid creation of a project, its required extent of elaboration, assessment of possible variants and the graphical processing of final documentation carried out to a high quality. The technology is therefore based exclusively on using the most modern computational and graphical CAD programs and the methods of three-dimensional modelling.

The company is a holder of HDM4 software, which is used for evaluation of economical effectivity of road prjects. Our designers also use german software PTV Vision for forecasting and modelling of traffic flows.

Data preparation

For projects involving large linear structures, first, a three-dimensional digital terrain model is created. For smaller projects, two-dimensional surveying of the present situation is sufficient. The data for obtaining an accurate digital terrain model are obtained in the following manner:

  • By land survey of the area of interest. Using the total LEICA stations, the data of the characteristic terrain points are measured and are subsequently processed with surveying programs into a final digital terrain model.
  • By aerial photography. The utility area is surveyed by specialized companies using aerial photography, and a digital terrain model is created. A by-product of the digital terrain model obtained in this manner is high-quality aerial photography - an orthophoto map, which can be used for plotting the designed structure into the landscape picture.

Project processing

For creating linear structures projects, SUDOP PRAHA a.s. uses an MX® system in MX RAIL versions for designing railroad structures or, as the case may be, MX®ROAD for designing road structures. The MX® system works with a digital terrain model, which enables creation of a very fast interactive project of the directional and vertical railway and road alignment, including the creation of a spatial model of the entire line. From the line model, a layout plan and the longitudinal and cross section line profiles are obtained that are used later as the basis for the design works in the interrelated spheres. The specialists in the interrelated fields of design can use the spatial data of the line model as the input data for their specialised programs - for example for working out a noise level study with the SOUNDPLAN TM system, designing engineering structures with the IDA NEXIS TM system, designing tunnels with the RIB® system, or as the input data for an elaboration on the acquisition of land or for preparation of budgets. For smaller road line structures, an alternative INROADS®.system is used at SUDOP PRAHA, a.s. The project processing is very demanding for coordinating individual cooperating specialists participating on a given project. The data manager therefore ensures the central administration of a large volume of data by means of the ProjectWise® system, a powerful tool for the administration of documents during designing of the project.

Final project preparation

In the final stage of the project preparation, Microsoft Office® programs are used for creating graphical attachments to the coordination layouts, for longitudinal and cross section profiles and further specialized plans. The entire project design is completed with our own colour printing of large-area drawings using Hewlett Packard plotters, laser printers or a large-area OCÉ machine. If required, the complete project documentation can be handed over to an investor in a digital form on any data carrier (Flash, DVD, etc.).
